  • What small details should I watch out for at Hanfu events?

Posted by Lashata Skipper on March 1, 2025 at 4:27 pm

I’m really excited to go to a Hanfu event soon, but I want to make sure I don’t miss anything important. Besides the outfit, are there little things I should know, like proper etiquette or any specific movements to keep in mind? I’d love to make sure I’m being respectful of the culture and blending in smoothly.

There are a few small things to keep in mind to make the experience more enjoyable and respectful.

    · Posture: When you’re wearing Hanfu, try to keep a graceful and composed posture. This is a big part of the look—standing tall and walking slowly gives the whole outfit more of a presence.

    · Movement: Avoid making sudden, sharp movements. Hanfu is all about flowing motions, so try to be more deliberate with your actions.

    · Sleeves: If your Hanfu has long sleeves, be careful they don’t drag on the ground or get caught in things. Keeping them out of the way or gently holding them can help prevent any awkward moments.

    · Greetings: A simple bow or respectful nod when you meet someone is a nice gesture to show respect. It doesn’t need to be elaborate, but it’s a nice touch that adds to the overall experience.

Check your hem—don’t let it drag. Hairpins stay put, and don’t overdo perfume—subtle’s best!

Loose threads—tuck ‘em in. Watch where you step, robes hate mud!
