  • Should I begin with simpler Hanfu designs or go for more elaborate ones?

I see so many beautiful and intricate Hanfu designs, and I’m tempted to go for one of the more elaborate styles right away. But is that a good idea, or should I start with something simpler to learn the basics first? What’s the best approach for someone new to wearing Hanfu?

It’s definitely better to start with simpler designs if you’re new to Hanfu. Here’s why:

Starting with simpler Hanfu like Ruqun or single-layer robes allows you to get used to the fit and the process of wearing Hanfu without feeling overwhelmed by complicated layers and designs. It’s easier to practice the basics, such as how to tie the sashes or adjust the layers, with less complex pieces. Elaborate designs are beautiful, but they often require more effort to put on and more attention to detail, especially with extra layers, embroidery, and accessories. As a beginner, focusing on simpler styles gives you the chance to learn the basics and feel comfortable before diving into more intricate pieces. Once you feel confident in simpler Hanfu, you can gradually experiment with more elaborate styles as you get more comfortable with the whole process.

Uh, I went for a simple one first ‘cause the big, flowy ones scared me! Just a short top and a skirt—still tripped a bit, but it was doable. Fancy ones with tons of layers? No way, I’d be lost. Stick to easy stuff ‘til you’re not fumbling around like me!

Start easy, dude—grab a basic set and call it good. Less layers, less hassle. Those wild, elaborate ones with capes and sashes? Cool, but you’ll be wrestling with ‘em all day. I’d mess around with simple stuff first, then go big when you’re feeling cocky about it!

Okay, I debated this forever—simple or fancy? Go simple, trust me. A two-piece hanfu is forgiving, and you won’t panic over where every string goes. Elaborate designs are stunning, but I’d have cried trying one first—too many parts! Build confidence with the easy ones, then upgrade later.
