  • How to wear Hanfu when you’re short—any styling tips?

Posted by lemondilema on March 2, 2025 at 1:45 pm

I’m on the shorter side, and every time i try on Hanfu, i feel like i’m disappearing under layers of fabric. I love how elegant Hanfu looks, but i don’t want to end up looking even smaller.

Are there specific Hanfu styles that work better for shorter people? Any styling tricks to create a more balanced and elongated look?

Being short doesn’t mean you can’t rock Hanfu! Here are a few tips to help make sure you look amazing:

Go for higher waistlines: This will help create the illusion of longer legs. Look for styles where the waist sits a bit higher, like empire waist or high-waisted skirts.

Choose shorter skirts: If long skirts feel overwhelming, try something a bit shorter. A mid-calf length skirt or one that hits just above the ankle will keep the proportions in balance.

Keep layers minimal: Too many layers can make you look shorter, so keep it simple and opt for fewer, more streamlined pieces.

With these tips, you’ll create a beautiful, balanced look that flatters your shorter frame while still looking super elegant.

Short gang, unite! Stick to high-waisted Qixiong skirts—lifts the look. Skip super long robes, go for cropped layers instead.

Go for fitted tops and shorter skirts, keeps it cute. Hair up in a bun stretches you out a bit—works for me!

High waistlines are your BFF—try a Ruqun with a cinched belt. Add small heels or platforms, gives you that extra oomph without tripping.
