  • How to stay warm in Hanfu during winter?

Posted by Kristen K. on March 1, 2025 at 1:23 pm

I’m a little worried about Hanfu in the winter. Since it’s often made with lighter fabrics, will it keep me warm enough? Are there styles that come with extra layers or thicker fabrics that can still keep the elegant Hanfu look while making sure I’m not freezing? I want to stay cozy but don’t want to sacrifice style.

Winter is definitely trickier with Hanfu, especially if you’re used to wearing something heavier, but you can still stay warm with a few simple adjustments. Choose fabrics like velvet or thicker silks that provide extra insulation. Layering is key – you can wear a thinner, warmer layer underneath your Hanfu to keep cozy while still rocking the traditional look. Some Hanfu styles come with added warmth, like extra linings or inner robes, which are perfect for colder weather.

If you’re going all out, pair your Hanfu with a stylish coat or shawl for that extra warmth. That way, you can maintain the look while not feeling the chill of winter. You’ll still look elegant but won’t freeze!

Uh, maybe wear something fluffy underneath? I’d try a quilted Ruqun and add socks. Worked okay when I tested it in the cold!

Winter warmth? Ming-style Aoqun with heavy lining—cozy and regal! Add a fur-trimmed cape, and you’re a walking masterpiece!

Long Beizi with some padding, maybe? I’d wear tights underneath ‘cause I get chilly fast. Seemed warm enough last time!
