  • How to match Hanfu with hairstyles and makeup? Any easy hair accessories?

So, i finally got my first set of Hanfu, and i love it, but now i have a new problem—i have no idea what to do with my hair or makeup. I see all these gorgeous Hanfu photos where people have the perfect hairstyles and flawless, elegant makeup that just fits the look. But when i try, my hair either ends up in a messy bun or just left down because i have no idea how to make it look good with Hanfu.

I don’t want anything too complicated—just some easy, beginner-friendly ways to do my hair that will actually match the style without taking an hour to do. Also, what about makeup? Should it be more natural, or are there certain styles that go better with different dynasties? And are there any simple hair accessories that work well for daily wear? Like, i want to add a little something to make my Hanfu look complete, but i also don’t want to look like i’m cosplaying in public.

When it comes to styling Hanfu, you want to keep things simple but still traditional. Here’s how i would go about it:

For hairstyles, honestly, there’s no need to go all-out unless you’re dressing up for something special. If you’re new to it, try starting with something like a low ponytail or a high bun—it’s easy, and it already gives you a pretty classic look. If you want to add a bit more flair, you can tie in a simple ribbon or a small hairpin—nothing too flashy, just enough to match the elegance of the Hanfu without looking over the top. As you get more comfortable, you can try some more traditional styles, like the double loop hairstyle, which is pretty and not too complicated either.

For makeup, keep it natural. Think about soft, light browns or peachy tones for eyeshadows, a hint of blush in a soft pink, and a nude or light pink lip. You don’t need heavy makeup, and honestly, keeping it light will make the Hanfu look more graceful. If you’re wearing it for something formal, you could add a bit more definition to your eyes or lips, but otherwise, stick to natural, soft tones.

As for accessories, i would suggest simple, delicate touches like a little hairpin or a small comb. You don’t need to go full traditional with big accessories, especially for daily wear—just something subtle that enhances the overall look without feeling like you’re in a costume. Remember, less is more!

Loose waves or a low bun—simple but elegant. Clip in a flower pin or jade stick, instant hanfu glow!

Soft makeup—pink lips, light eyeshadow. Toss a tassel hairpin in a messy bun, so easy and cute!

High updos scream tradition—add a metal hair stick or silk ribbon. Keep makeup natural, let the hanfu pop!
