  • Best Hanfu styles for different body types—any tips for curvier figures?

I’ve always been obsessed with Hanfu, but i keep hesitating to buy one because i’m not sure if it’ll look good on me. I have a fuller figure, and i worry that some styles might make me look bigger or just drown me in fabric. Some Hanfu styles look amazing on slender people, but i’m not sure which ones would actually flatter my body type.

For those of you with a curvier body type, are there specific Hanfu styles or silhouettes that work better? Any styling tricks to balance proportions and create a more elegant, flattering look? Also, if anyone has recommendations for where to find Hanfu that looks good on different body types, i’d love to hear them!

If you’ve got a curvier body, don’t worry! Hanfu can look amazing on all body types. Here are a few tips to make sure you find a style that flatters you:

Empire waist or cinched waist styles: These are great because they help define your waistline and create a more balanced silhouette. Hanfu with an empire waist will give you shape without being too tight, which is perfect for curvier figures.

A-line silhouettes: This is a classic cut that works well for most body types. A skirt that gently flares out can give you that elegant, flattering look without feeling too bulky or restrictive.

Fabric choice: Soft fabrics like silk, cotton, or blends are your best friend. These fabrics will flow beautifully and won’t cling to your body, giving you a nice, smooth silhouette that still shows off the elegance of Hanfu.

With the right silhouette and fabric, you can totally rock Hanfu and look amazing no matter your body type. It’s all about making the design work for you!

Curvier? Rock a high-waisted Qixiong Ruqun—cinches the waist, flatters the hips. Avoid tight fits, go flowy!

Tang-style robes are great for curves—loose and regal. Add a wide belt to shape it without squeezing.

I’m curvy too—maybe a long skirt with a loose top? Feels comfy and doesn’t cling weirdly.
