“Elegance in attire is called Hua, and the grandeur of rituals is known as Xia—this is what ‘Huaxia’ represents.”

On October 3, 2024, the “Hua Xia Beauty Showcasing the World” Hanfu New Product Launch was successfully held at the Erlitou Summer Capital Ruins Museum, a cultural landmark that combines ancient history with modern creativity.

The event was organized by the Propaganda Department of the Yanshi District Committee, the Luoyang Hanfu Research Institute, and the Erlitou Summer Capital Ruins Museum. It was supported by the Cultural, Sports, and Tourism Bureau of Yanshi District, the Education and Sports Bureau of Yanshi District, and Look Forward (Luoyang) Hanfu Cultural Technology Co., Ltd., with additional support from the Zhai Town People’s Government, the Yanshi District Media Center, and the Yanshi District Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.

These innovations honor principles detailed in our Guide to Traditional Chinese Clothing, where historical accuracy meets contemporary relevance.

The event was a feast for both the eyes and the soul, as beautifully crafted Hanfu garments made their way onto the runway. These pieces were brought to life by top-tier designers working closely with experts from the Luoyang Hanfu Research Institute. Drawing inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of Luoyang—an ancient city with a history stretching back thousands of years—the designs were influenced by precious artifacts uncovered at the Erlitou Ruins, such as the dragon-patterned translucent vessels and turquoise-inlaid bronze plaques with beast-face motifs. These ancient symbols of wisdom and aesthetics have been reinterpreted through modern design techniques, breathing new life into these historical elements.

The design team immersed themselves in the cultural significance behind these artifacts, carefully extracting classic elements like dragon motifs and beast-face patterns—symbols of power and good fortune—and elegantly weaving them into the Hanfu designs. The traditional art of embroidery was blended with contemporary printing techniques, resulting in vibrant, life-like depictions of these ancient patterns on the garments. It was as if these pieces had transcended time itself, bringing history into the present while telling their unique stories.

Each piece of Hanfu on display showcased the distinctive style of different historical periods, with designers expertly balancing color, fabric, and cut. The end result was a series of Hanfu creations that beautifully merge the depth of traditional culture with the lightness of modern aesthetics, appealing to both the past and the present.

The event also featured a touching moment with young students, full of energy and enthusiasm, as they confidently strutted down the runway wearing these exquisite Hanfu garments. Not only did the students get to experience the charm of Hanfu firsthand, but the event also helped foster a sense of pride and recognition among the youth for traditional Chinese culture.

In line with the National Day celebrations, the Erlitou Summer Capital Ruins Museum once again succeeded in bridging the past and future through the medium of Hanfu. The event attracted increasing numbers of visitors to the museum, inviting them to experience a beautiful fusion of tradition and modernity, where innovation and aesthetic values walked hand-in-hand. Looking ahead, the museum aims to continue exploring new ways to share and promote traditional culture, creating even more cultural events in Luoyang that will shine brightly for generations to come.

Like the Paris Hanfu community’s fusion workshops, this event bridged ancient craftsmanship with modern design techniques.
