  • What Hairpieces Work for Short vs Long Hair in Hanfu?

Posted by Wand on February 27, 2025 at 8:47 am

I’ve just started wearing hanfu, but I’m a bit confused about the hairpieces. Do long and short hair need different kinds of accessories? Should I go for something simpler with short hair, or can I wear the same types of pieces as someone with long hair? Any tips for picking the right hairpieces for each style?

The length of your hair will definitely influence the type of hairpieces you choose for your hanfu.

    • Long hair: When you have long hair, you have more freedom to choose elaborate hairpieces. Detailed, large hairpins, phoenix combs, and even hairpieces with dangling crystals or flowers can add drama and beauty to your look. Long hair really lets you get creative with these accessories, so you can go for bigger and more intricate designs.
    • Short hair: For short hair, you’ll want to stick with smaller, more delicate pieces. Simple hairpins, like a small jade pin or golden flower pin, work best for shorter hair. These pieces should be subtle and elegant, without competing with your hairstyle. Keep it simple and understated for a clean and graceful look.

Whichever length your hair is, make sure the hairpiece complements the overall vibe of your hanfu. With the right accessory, your hairstyle will enhance the beauty of your outfit.

Short? Small clips or floral pins—cute and secure. Long? Flowy ribbons or jade sticks—dramatic!

I’ve got a bob—tiny tassels work. Long hair gets those big forks, right?
