  • Wearing Hanfu to work—is it too awkward? Tips for making it work

I’ve been thinking about trying to wear Hanfu to work, but is it really practical? I mean, is it too formal, or do people at work give you weird looks? If anyone has experience, how do you make it work without feeling out of place? I’m thinking maybe keeping it simple with a less elaborate style, like the Song or Ming Hanfu, but would love to hear any tips for keeping it comfortable and professional!

It really depends on your workplace, but yes, wearing Hanfu to work can feel a bit out of place if your office is more business casual. If you’re looking to try it out, I recommend going for something simpler and more toned down, like a Song or Ming-style Hanfu. Avoiding super long sleeves or too many layers can help too—those can be a bit much in a work setting! Also, don’t be surprised if people are curious about what you’re wearing. Be prepared to explain the outfit and its significance. You can totally rock it with confidence as long as you keep it practical and not too elaborate. If you’re working in a creative industry, this might be a fun way to spark some interesting conversations!

Mix a shan (shirt) with slacks. Boss thought it was ‘designer avant-garde’. Promotion? Pending.

Stick to neutral tones and minimal embroidery. Pair with blazers. Corporate Hanfu = stealth cultural flex.
