I really want to wear Hanfu more often, but i feel like every time i put it on, i look way too fancy. I’ll just be going out for a casual lunch or a walk, and suddenly i look like i’m about to attend a formal banquet.

How do you guys make Hanfu look more casual and wearable for daily life? Are there certain styles or ways to tone it down so it doesn’t feel like you’re overdressed for something simple?

I totally get it—sometimes Hanfu can feel like you’re way overdressed for a simple day out. But here are some ways to keep it casual:

Choose simple styles: Go for a basic robe or a simple tunic with a flowing skirt. Avoid those heavy, layered designs that look more formal—stick to lightweight, breathable fabrics for a more relaxed vibe.

Pair it with simple shoes: Instead of going for traditional embroidered slippers, try flats or sandals. This will tone down the formality without sacrificing style.

Keep accessories minimal: You don’t need a lot of jewelry. A simple hairpin or delicate ribbon can add just enough of a traditional touch without making you look like you’re going to a royal banquet.

With simple styles, light accessories, and comfy shoes, Hanfu can look effortlessly casual without being overdressed for everyday wear.

Mix a hanfu top with jeans or a chill skirt—bam, low-key vibes. Skip the fancy hairpins, keep it basic!
