  • How to choose the right Hanfu style for a fuller figure?

Posted by Lola Ignatowski on March 2, 2025 at 12:20 pm

So, I’ve got a fuller figure, and I want to wear Hanfu, but I’m not sure which styles work best for me. I don’t want to feel like I’m swallowing myself in fabric, but I also don’t want anything too tight. Are there certain fabrics or cuts I should look for to help flatter my shape while still keeping that traditional look?

If you’ve got a fuller figure, don’t worry, you can totally look fabulous in Hanfu! The key is choosing styles that complement your shape without making you feel too swallowed up. Try tailored fits—something that fits snugly but doesn’t cling too much to your body. Light and breathable fabrics like silk, chiffon, or soft cotton are awesome because they won’t add too much bulk. For the shape, A-line or empire waists are perfect; they help define your figure without squeezing it too much. And when you pick skirts, go for a longer top with a shorter skirt. This gives you great balance and elongates the look. Plus, if you want a little flair, stick with vertical patterns—they’ll help lengthen your frame, and you’ll be rocking Hanfu in no time!

Tang robes—loose and flowy, flatters curves. High-waist Qixiong skirts cinch without clinging!

Song-style—slim but not tight. Add a wide belt for shape, looks fab!
