  • How to accessorize Hanfu without looking too extra?

Some Hanfu outfits come with SO many accessories—like hairpins, earrings, necklaces, waist chains, and even tassels everywhere! While I love how intricate they can be, I sometimes worry that too many accessories make the outfit look more like a costume than an actual outfit. How do you guys decide when to stop adding accessories? Is there a ‘less is more’ approach to Hanfu styling, or does it depend on the look you’re going for?

We’ve all seen those people who pile on accessories and look a little… much, right? The key is to keep it balanced:

    Less is often more
If your Hanfu already has a lot of intricate details, keep your accessories to a minimum. A delicate necklace or a small pair of earrings can add just the right amount of flair without overwhelming the look.

Match accessories to the style of your Hanfu
If you’re wearing a fancier Hanfu, it’s okay to have a bit more detail in the accessories, like an embroidered belt or a more ornate hairpin. But for more casual Hanfu looks, keep the accessories simple and refined.

    Pick high-quality pieces
Instead of trying to add more accessories, focus on choosing one or two really nice pieces. A gorgeous hand-painted hairpin or a beautifully embroidered belt can elevate the whole look without needing anything else.

The trick is to keep the focus on the outfit, not the accessories. You don’t need to pile on every accessory you own to look great!

I’d try a thin bracelet or cool glasses. Feels now but not out of place!

One statement piece—like a jade pin—and call it. Less sparkle, more class!
