Hanfu Care Guide: Folding, Washing, and Storage
Proper Hanfu care helps keep garments neat, wrinkle-free, and in good condition over time. Correct folding and washing methods not only save space but also protect the structure and fabric of Hanfu.

Correct folding methods help save space while keeping Hanfu smooth and wrinkle-free.
1. Folding Zhiju Shenyi (Straight-Cut Robe)
2. Folding Quju Shenyi (Wrapped-Cut Robe)
The folding method for Quju is similar to Zhiju, with one additional step for the wrapped front panel.
3. Folding Inner Garments (Zhongyi Top)
(The same method can be used for upper Ru garments)
Hold the bottom of the underarm seams with one hand, and hold both sleeve seam ends with the other hand. Align everything neatly and lay the garment flat.
Do not assume there is only one sleeve—refer to the image. This shows the final folded result.
4. Folding Straight-Cut Garments
Use one hand to gather the four corners at the side slits of the hem, and the other hand to hold the sleeve seam ends. Lift the garment and lay it flat.
[Washing Hanfu]
Washing methods depend on the fabric and garment style.
Single-layer cotton or linen Hanfu can be washed in a washing machine.
Lined garments and formal Hanfu are better hand-washed or sent to a dry-cleaning service for professional care.

Short garments and trousers can be dried on hangers.
Larger Hanfu pieces can be dried by threading a long pole through the sleeves, or by using a drying net.
After drying, it is best to iron the garment before storing or wearing it.
[Storing Hanfu]
Short garments and trousers can be folded for storage.
Larger Hanfu garments may also be folded, but avoid stacking too many layers to prevent creasing. They can also be stored on hanging rods.
Always take precautions against moth damage.
