  • Which Hanfu belts work for different occasions?

Posted by Daniel B. on March 2, 2025 at 12:13 pm

I’ve seen so many different Hanfu belts, from super wide ones to thin, delicate ones, and I honestly have no idea which ones work best for casual wear versus formal events. Do certain styles give off a more relaxed vibe, while others look more put-together? And how do you match the belt to the Hanfu so it doesn’t feel out of place? I feel like belts can totally change the vibe of an outfit, but I don’t know where to start!

    Casual days
For casual outings, a simple fabric belt works perfectly. Think soft, neutral colors that match your Hanfu but aren’t too flashy. You don’t need anything too intricate for everyday wear.

    Formal events
When you’re dressing for a formal event, like a wedding or ceremony, go for a more decorative belt with embroidery or intricate patterns. A wide, embellished belt can really make your outfit pop.

    Color coordination is key
If you’re wearing a more formal Hanfu, make sure your belt matches or complements your Hanfu’s color scheme. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could contrast the colors for a more bold look!

Your belt can make or break the outfit, so choosing the right one for the occasion is important. Keep it simple for casual wear and go all out for formal events!

Casual: Braided cotton belts. Weddings: Embroidered silk with gold thread. Funerals: Plain dark sashes (no bling).

Festivals? Go wild with tassels or bells. Bonus: They double as conversation starters.
