  • What low-key Hanfu styles can I wear to blend in at a gathering?

I want to join a Hanfu gathering, but I don’t want to draw too much attention to myself—are there any more subtle, low-key styles I can wear that will still let me participate without feeling like I’m standing out too much? I love the idea of blending in while still enjoying the experience, but I don’t want to go too over the top either.

If you’re trying to avoid standing out too much but still want to join in, there are definitely some simple styles you can go for. A great option is the Ruqun, which is a two-piece Hanfu set that looks elegant without being over-the-top. You can choose a more muted color palette—pastels or soft tones like pale blues, pinks, or earth tones. This keeps the look understated but still very much in line with Hanfu tradition. You can skip any extra accessories and focus on the basics, like a simple headband or small brooch. The idea is to stay true to the Hanfu look without going all out, which keeps things low-key but still stylish.

Short Ruqun or a plain Shenyi—simple, no fuss. Muted colors like beige or blue keep it understated!

I’d go with a basic top and skirt—less layers. Feels normal but still hanfu-y!

Try a Song-style set—slim fit, no wild sleeves. Pair with flats, blends right in!
